About the Observatory

Who is watching, why, and what we do with what we see.

Autotonomous started as a private log. One person, watching autonomous agents handle real tasks, writing down what happened when things went well and, more often, what happened right before they went wrong.

We are not a lab and we do not build agents. We watch the ones already out in the world doing real work: writing code, managing inboxes, moving money, running customer conversations, and we pay closest attention to the moment just before something breaks. That moment tends to look identical to every moment before it, right up until it doesn't.

What you'll find here are field notes, not reviews. We don't rank tools or chase every release. We write when we've watched something long enough to have an actual opinion about it: how much autonomy it earned, what oversight looked like in practice, and where the edges were sharper than they first appeared.

If you're deciding how much to trust an agent with real work, that's the exact question we spend our time on. We'd rather hand you one carefully tested judgment than a hundred features you have to test yourself.
